Highland is NASA’s sole source in the Space Shuttle program for carbonizable rayon fabric that provides a thermal barrier in solid rocket nozzles. Building on that success, we have found new applications for our thermal barrier material. As a leader in the field, Highland also supplies similar rayon to the US Department of Defense and commercial launch vehicle solid rocket motor systems. Our rayon fabrics have a proven record of superior performance with properties of thermal conductivity and stability.
